These are specific planned journeys of some length or difficulty for a definite purpose such as:- Exploring an unknown area or specific aspects of a wilderness area. The outdoor environment makes a unique contribution in this sphere of outdoor learning as it is:Isolated from other people, support mechanisms, family and friends; A continuous experience - issues cannot be avoided or left until the next session; holistic - involving a range of challenges, and involving self, others and the environment
Wilderness Explorer 14 – 16 years (This can adapted to older and adult age groups)
Previous Experience | The trip is intended for those (of whatever age) who have previously undertaken some sort of camping / bothying trip of more than 1 night and who are at least familiar with the mechanics of camp life and travelling in the outdoors. 5 or 8 days
Adventure Treks 16-18 years (This can adapted to older and adult age groups)
Previous Experience | No previous serious outdoor activity skill level is assumed but most students will have had at least some sort of outdoor living experience. This is a unique opportunity to build and progress on past experiences, take on new challenges, developing personal outdoor skills, extending outdoor living experiences. The treks are under taken by open canoe and / or on foot and are usually entirely self supported, self planned and propelled. 4 – 8 days

These are some sample Wilderness Explorer and Adventure Treks available with Snowgoose Mountain Centre
Ages 14 – 16 years | Focused on Navigation & Hill Walking The aim of this journey is to give students an opportunity to learn about navigation, whilst living and working with each other in a small group Students will learn the basics of mountain navigation, using a map and compass. Reading the land and navigating using natural features will also be explored. Other challenges will be found in the daily adventure of travelling and living simply in the mountains. 3 days
Ages 11 -13 years | Focused on leadership through open canoeing, mountain walking, The aim of this journey is to give students an opportunity to learn about leadership, whilst living and working with each other in a small group. Students are invited to observe and take on leadership roles in a range of relevant and appropriate outdoor activities and the daily team activities that are a part of living in the outdoors. 5 days
Ages 16 -18 years | Focused on Team Work through navigation, open canoeing The aim of this journey is to give students an opportunity to learn about teamwork, whilst living and working with each other in a small group in a spectacular and remote natural environment. Students will have an opportunity to put into practice skills they have learnt during their previous outdoor programs. Snowgoose and school staff will take a back seat role, providing safety support and facilitation of theory sessions on formal models of teamwork. Students will be encouraged and supported to take the lead and to put theory into practice. 7 – 14 days.
Ages 9 – 11 years | Focused on Communication and Listening through rock climbing, hill walking, navigation, dinghy The aim of this journey is to give students an opportunity to learn about communication, whilst living and working with each other in a small group. Through a series of initiative activities and a rock climbing session, students will be encouraged to consider and to practice some of the skills of good communication such as listening skills and effective group discussion. Other challenges will be found in the daily adventure of travelling and living simply in the outdoors. 4 Days
14 – 18 years | Focused on Understanding the Water Cycle through kayaking, dinghy sailing, open canoeing, rock climbing, mountain walking. The aim of this journey is to give students an opportunity to observe in detail and to participate in, some key elements in the water cycle. Precipitation, catchments, the effects of landscape on the water cycle, human impacts of tourism etc will all be considered. This journey is intended to supplement the Environmental Science curriculum. 7 days
