residential courses

Duke of Edinburgh Award Residentials Our week long dedicated residential DoE Courses offer the opportunity to take part in residential Multi Adventure Sport experiences. These courses are intended as an opportunity to develop your personal skill levels.

The course can be a full 5 day multi activity course consisting of a range of exciting activities. The program is always weather dependent but a common program will include three of these adventure sports:

  • Mountain Walking,
  • Rock Climbing and Abseiling,
  • Canoeing
  • River, Loch or Sea Kayaking
  • Dinghy Sailing.
  • Mountain Biking
  • Depending on the wishes of the whole course group we can offer a 1 night "solo" bivouac to round things off nicely!
  • Plus the option to develop at least one of the activities for a further 2 days to extend your skill level beyond beginner level.

The plan will be flexible during the week to allow us to make the most of the weather, and ensure that you have as much fun as possible – and leave with a pile of memories, new friendships …. And a smile on your face. You will have the opportunity to experience a range of exciting and challenging outdoor activities.

No where do we push anyone beyond his or her own limits – but there are always folks who already have some experience and those who are just keen to have a go. There is usually a range of abilities and fitness.

Do you have what it takes?

Or you could choose to spend a part of the week taking part in an environmentally related project in our fabulous outdoor environment.

The aim of the residential project for D of E is for participants to work with and get to know new people in a new environment. Therefore, to fulfil the spirit of these aims, we can accept no more than 3 people from any single D of E unit onto a course for each activity group that is running. Please contact us for further details on this.

You don't need to be doing a D of E gold award to come on a course!

Stuck for something to do at half term or in the summer? Based at our family run hostel or bunkhouse these courses are also suitable for any person from 16 to 25 who want to participate in a week of outdoor activities. These courses are not just exclusively for the Dof E Gold residential.

The price includes all equipment, 6 nights' hostel / bunkhouse accommodation, in course transport . No food is provided – we are fully self catered in the hostel and bunkhouse. There is a really good local shop within a 2 minute walk.

Participants must arrange their own transport to and from the centre. For most courses we do a free pick up, to and from Fort William Bus station, at the start and end of the course. The train stops outside our hostel – 2 stops out from Fort William on the Mallaig line. Contact the centre for more details on this.
